Viviane Reading Vice-President of the European Commission has selected the winning design and slogan for the official logo for the European Year of Volunteering 2011. This was a strong competition with more than twenty high-quality entries for the logo reaching the final selection phase.

The idea behind the logo is explained as follows: "To carry the victim in sitting position, they form a seat, using the hands of two persons. This symbol can also be taken as unification of people from different countries for a common goal - help, based on love to your neighbour."

The slogan "Volunteer! Make a difference." will be translated into the official languages of the EU. The winners of the Logo and Slogan competition will be invited to the Media Launch of the European Year of Volunteering which will take place in Brussels around the 5th of December 2010.
